my boyfriend and i attended a marriage preparation seminar last year (run by a catholic group) at his parents' suggestion. one of the exercises was about children, and we agreed to put it off until we'd settled a little better as a couple (after all, there are a lot of adjustments to suddenly living together!) it was a really good experience, up until the last session where family planning pamphlets were distributed. it basically said: condoms=sin, pills=sin, nfp is the only god-approved measure.

thank you for writing this. i think i like this best, so far. and, i also fully intend on skipping the "submit to your husband" part in my wedding vows. :)

Good luck living your chosen life. It'll probably be hard, but it's nice to know we're not alone in choosing non-traditional lifestyles.

Great interview, kudos to Hector and partner - the new Filipinos, intelligent and know their belief system.
I guess more and more people study their religions and find that what the traditional church teaches is not what they firmly believe in. As I've always say, it MY soul and MY immortality; I should have a say in it - a BIG SAY!

Hector,

I agree with so many points in this post.

I have a daughter and she is my Life, but I also know exactly what you mean about valuing your sense of freedom. After 8 years of being a mom, I still carve out "me" time.

Like you, I believe in a God that is everywhere and to who I can talk whenever I feel like it.

I also think that the clergy is manipulating scripture to enslave the poor and uneducated.

But mostly, I value the points you raised about women, namely : 1) having an equal say in planning and having children 2) needing to have control over their bodies and 3) how neither of these emasculate you --> check out this link so you'll know what I mean.

Very well said. And for all the women who have had to fight for their rights as women, thank you for being one of the guys on our side.
